Set during World War II in Nazi Germany, The Book Thief follows Liesel Meminger (Sophie Nélisse), a young girl who is sent to live with foster parents, Hans and Rosa Hubermann (Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson), after the death of her brother and the abandonment by her mother. Liesel's new life is filled with hardship, but her love for books becomes a beacon of light in a world consumed by darkness.
